Pastor Fee teaches us that after describing how Christians should act toward one another, Peter described how they should act toward those in the pagan culture—a culture that would soon (if it hadn’t already) become very hostile toward them. While it would be most natural to repay evil for evil and to retaliate, Jesus had taught and exemplified otherwise. Believers were not to retaliate but were to pay them back with a blessing. Believers’ speech should always be characterized by blessings, never curses, but “blessing” refers to more than words of kindness. When believers turn away from evil, their God-honoring speech is then accompanied doing good. Pastor Fee will be teaching from the Book of 1 Peter 3:7-12 and his message is entitled “Turn from Evil and Do Good”
