Lifting Up Holy Hands

Pastor Fee teaches us that The Apostle Paul focused on public worship in the church. Prayer in the congregation should be given by men (Greek, andras). To pray with holy hands lifted up to God may appear somewhat unusual, but it was, in fact, the accepted way of prayer among Jews and the earliest Christians. In Old Testament times, prayers were made with the face pointed toward heaven and palms turned upward with hands outstretched. This conveyed supplication and longing for God’s blessing. Quite often, hands were used symbolically to show the humble attitude of the person praying. But these men who prayed needed holy hands; in other words, they had to be “clean” before God. Pastor Fee will be teaching from the Book 1 Timothy 2:8-15 and his message is entitled: “Lifting Up Holy Hands”
